About Me

About me: Picture of Ellen massaging a friend at their house.

My name is Ellen Gingell and I qualified with a level 5 Sports and Remedial Massage qualification from BCMB (Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork).

What drew me to massage?

I find the human body fascinating. I always have.
When I was younger I wanted to be Doctor (or….an actress….haha!) and realised whilst doing my A-Levels this wasn’t the right choice for me. I chose to study Pharmacology, the branch of medicine concerned with the uses, effects, and modes of action of drugs. During the course it became apparent that self care (including regular exercise, healthy diet etc) was a huge factor in deciding our health and I felt disillusioned by going into an industry where in some cases symptoms were masked instead of resolved. Don’t get me wrong here I know the importance of this type of medicine however the profession didn’t call me.
After a minor detour into the world of teaching I felt the call back to working in health however this time with a more holistic approach and I haven’t looked back.

Sports and Remedial Massage is my souls work!

What effect can it have on your body?

Manual therapy can have a immeasurable effect on the body. I believe this is due to all of our body’s systems being connected. Physical touch is received by the skin and surrounding tissues which in turn signals to our brain. Here a cascade of events can lead to changes such as, stress relief, improved digestion, effect on immune function and blood pressure.
I don’t know about you but I find that incredible!

How I approach a treatment:

Everyone is unique. From the reason they need a massage to their personal preferences. That is why I ensure that I understand fully what you are seeking prior to starting treatment.
From here I am responsive to what I am learning about your body through touch, massage is a conversation. Massage is not a one size fits all approach and I pride myself on using different styles and techniques to achieve the necessary outcome, This is why I ask you to request cupping or needling prior to treatment if it is something you would like as I choose to use it where I think is necessary.
